| Burr Falls or Borden Falls is located in the Burrville section of Torrington. This 45 foot roadside waterfall once provided water power to the first condensed milk factory established in 1857 by Gail Borden. Ironically, neither the historical site or the waterfall have been developed, so available parking is limited. While a simple sign is erected here about the factory, no signs or posting of no trespassing were noted. However, foundation and dam remnants over grown with vine or bramble assumes that exploration will require boots preferred over sandals. | |||||||||
| From Winsted, Rt-8 south to exit 46, west .5 mile on Pinewoods Road, left onto Winsted Road for 1 mile, at the lights turn right onto Burr Mountain Road.In approximately .2 miles as you drive up the hill you'll see the falls on your left. A small parking area can be found on your left towards the bottom of the old factory ruins or another at the top of the hill near the crest of the falls. Steep embankment, the growth of bramble along with slippery rocks require caution if you decide to explore the area. |
