Martin PBM "Mariner"

The unique amphibian Martin PBM "Mariner" was produced for the Navy and Coast Guard from 1937 to 1949. Designed for multiple use as a search and rescue, oceanic patrol, cargo/transport and included armament for offensive aircraft operations. Capable of carrying crew of 7 and 20 passengers or a cargo payload of 8,000 lbs it was powered by (2) 2,200 hp 18 cylinder radial engines and had a impressive range of 4,900 miles with a cruising speed of 150 mph and a maximum speed of 220 mph. In an offensive role it was armed with (8) .50 caliber machine guns in nose, dorsal, waist and tail turrets. Its capacity to carry either (8) 500 lb bombs, (8) depth charges (4) mines or (2) torpedo's made this amphibian aircraft functional as a anti-submarine aircraft with a punch.
