Karman SH-2 "Sea Sprite"

Designed for the U.S. Navy in 1956, the "Sea Sprite" is an all around utility helicopter and was manufactured in many versions. Powered by twin 1,350 hp turbines it has a maximum air speed of 165 mph, operating range of 420 miles and cargo capacity of 4,000 lbs. Operated by a pilot, co-pilot and one additional crew member who operated sonar or radar equipment and the side mounted cargo hoist. The cargo hoist has a capacity to lift 600 lbs and is used in rescue missions and for delivery of supplies to ships without a landing deck. In addition, the "Sea Sprite" is utilized in aircraft control, deploying sonar buoys for anti-submarine detection and anti-ship missile defense. It can also be armed with a .30 caliber machine gun at mid section, a mini gun in a turret under the nose, either Sidewinder or Sparrow missiles and torpedoes.
