Pecks Brook Falls - Mt. Greylock Reservation.

 Adams, MA 425K

Either way, a hike to the Pecks Falls on Mt. Greylock Reservation is going require you to walk up hill one way or the other.  However, the trail systems on Mt. Greylock are in very good condition. I've done it both ways and found the top down is the shortest, but you have to walk up hill on the way back. Of course its visa versa from the bottom up. Off season in late fall or early spring, the gates to the reservation are still closed, the bottom up is the only way to visit the falls. Once at the shelter site, to get to the base of the falls you have to scramble down steep embankments, which means getting back up them also. The best way I found was to walk back up the spur trail and where there is an additional brook that if you follow down, joins Pecks Brook just below the falls. This also minimizes environment impact and erosion near the shelter/falls.
