Daniel K. Casey *** U.S. Navy *** 1963-1967

 

Recruited into the U.S Navy on July 30, 1963, Dan attended the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois and was assigned as a Communications Specialist on the USS Northampton (CC-1), the floating Presidential Command Post at that time out of Norfolk, Virginia. Later in September 1964 he became part of the 2200 man crew on board the USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) out of Quonset Point, Rhode Island. "The Champ" was the primary recovery ship on August 5, 1965 for the spacecraft Gemini 5 piloted by Astronauts Cooper and Conrad. He was discharged in July 1967 as a Yeoman, Y-N3, Petty Officer 3rd Class.
