Melvin Somes *** U.S. Army *** Germany 1969 -1971

 

Melvin was teaching science at Pittsfield High School when he was drafted in 1968. Trained in Special Ordnance at Sandia Base in New Mexico he was attached to the 619th Ordnance Special Weapons Depot near Kaiserlautern, Germany. He performed maintenance on Nuclear Weapons and was discharged as a Spec-5 in 1971.
