Prisoners of War

American

The Prisoner of War experiences of being captured, isolated in captivity and their personal freedom removed, can only be experienced. However, their sense of ending, returning to their family and individual freedom restored is shared with their liberators. Japan had surrendered and survivers of Batann and Corregidor, POW's since April, 1942, are shown looking up from their isolated prison and spying their first glimpse of liberty. Charles "Gus" Clucas, Tyringham, MA flew off the USS Wasp (CV-18) in August, 1945 with Torpedo Squadron VT-86, capturing this moment.
